I recently finished character sketches for Marmalade with Adelaide. It’s important to work on developing your character before you get too far into the story—they need personality and a little bit of zing!
Read PostI am inspired by botanical gardens and stained glass windows, flowers and insects. I love characters with lots of personality. In addition to writing and illustrating books, I enjoy creating papercuts with more serious themes like butterflies and rose windows.
When I can, I like to incorporate words into the papercuts. It is very difficult to cut letters, but the outcome is rewarding. If you look closely, you might be able to find poems in the wings of the butterflies and elsewhere in the papercuts.
Each papercut requires meticulous planning and intense concentration. It can take several days to complete.
